Phacelia honey – a delight for the palate!
Phacelia honey is a fine-grained floral honey with a light yellow color. Its taste combines sweetness and mildness with a slight lemony aftertaste. Phacelia, known as the queen of nectar yield, stimulates the senses with blue flowers and a fairytale scent. Our bees bring nectar from its flowers and turn it into golden, velvety honey. Phacelia blooms briefly but intensively, sharing its wealth of nutritional properties. Thanks to this, we can enjoy pleasantly melting honey – a fairytale feast straight from nature!
Where does phacelia honey come from?
This is a special type of honey that deserves recognition. We don't hear about this honey very often, as our homes typically host acacia, linden, or polyfloral honey. However, it's worth getting to know its valuable Phacelia honey properties. Phacelia honey belongs to nectar honeys and is harvested from phacelia flowers (Phacelia tanacetifolia). This plant has many varieties, but in Poland, blue phacelia is most commonly grown. Fields blooming with blue-violet flowers look amazing and almost always have working bees on them. This is no coincidence – phacelia is considered by beekeepers to be one of the best nectar-yielding plants. Due to the blue color of this plant, blue pollen stores can be seen near the cultivation.
Phacelia Honey Characteristics
Phacelia honey has a very light, yellowish, or even greenish color due to the characteristic hue of blue phacelia flowers. It stays in this shade when liquid. When it starts to crystallize, the color becomes lighter or even white, and its consistency turns creamy. Honey from phacelia flowers will appeal to most people. It stands out with its traditional, delicate, slightly sour taste and exceptional floral aroma.
Phacelia honey applications
Phacelia honey serves as an excellent sugar alternative – you can sweeten tea or other beverages with it. This bee treat works perfectly as an addition to daily breakfasts – its delicate taste pairs wonderfully with homemade oatmeal or millet porridge. Phacelia honey is also used in cosmetics. It is an ingredient in creams, balms, and scrubs.
